@clacke exactly. The main benefit of #GIT workflow over existing #MediaWiki workflow is that nobody can delete my version of my work.

Sorry #lazyweb, but this is a fiendishly difficult search engine query. Can #git in any way automatically track the contents of a gzipped file to enable sensible merge/rebase operations. Asked as a former hacker now using a lot of office documents, ebooks, and other gzipped XML.

Oh, there are some trivial bugs in it. I used to know how to do this. I can't even remember what text editor I used to prefer, much less arcane #git commands. Ah! #geany. Hello, old friend.

@takeshitakenji I think that it keeps the idealist "install you own instance" moto far away from being reached, because of blatant technical elitism. Most people don't know how to launch an SSH session. But maybe, if they're using a Linux distribution, even a…

@davexunit Good. :) #GIT is very helpful here, just create an empty repository (even somewhere local or on your USB stick) with "git init --bare bla.git" can you can setup it as remote repository and push to it. That is how I do it here with e.g. !gnusocial .

Settling on #git and #orgmode for initially documenting #libernil things. Feels clunky right now, mostly because I did a big braindump across a bunch of files. I'll get hierarchy and structure worked out soon enough. I might just make it all one document for now.

Harsh but fair. http://xkcd.com/1597/ #xkcd #git Personally, I resolve conflicts by using rebase rather than merge, and never working with anybody but myself. YMMV.

well, great breakthrough today! in spite of that, I'm still running into #git walls not quite understanding what the different commands actually *do*. But never mind, I'll learn. And I'm working towards an application (setting up ASUSTOR NAS as Git repository…

After yet another bout of trial and error and looking at examples in yet more tutorials, I have FINALLY figured out how to use the ssh "shortcut" set up in ssh_config to connect to a remote Git repository on Hal. This syntax I have NOT found in any tutorial y…

OK, I *finally* managed to get something from #git repo on #Hal after hours of trial and error and totally misleading error messages. But I've only gotten it to work with SSH password, not with the keypair setup I had prepared. #disappointing :( Calling it a …

*sigh* I'm trying to construct all sorts of variations of a path to a 'remote' Git repository on Hal (NAS) but I keep getting the same error message: "error: pathspec 'hal/volume1/Web/content/wp-content/themes/twentyeleven-child' did not match any file(s) kno…

I *think* I have the (SSH) URL for one of my remote (on Hal) repositories right - at least the 'git add remote' finished without grumbles. Now trying to decide which command to use to get some code from the server into my local practice project... pull, fetch…
